Three days before the Ironman: Marino reports from Malaysia
von Marino Vanhoenacker, am 24.02.2010
The billboards here in town call it “The Toughest Show on Earth”. And it seems like they could be right. The race course is ok - maybe even on the fast side but the climate will make this one slower and a whole lot harder.
On Monday I did a 2 hour bike-ride and my SRM told me the average temperature for the trip was 35 °C. I did the race before, I think it was 2003 and I’ll still remember how hard that edition was, so I have a good idea of what is coming on zaterdag.
Preparation has been ok but not more than that. Like all the European athletes I had to go on a trainingcamp, outdoor training was simply impossible for the majority of December, January and February and its an early season start but that’s what I wanted, to get an early race to find out where I am at the moment, and trying to qualify for Hawaii of course.
I’ll get back to you after the race briefing and/or press conference if there is any shocking news from this end of the world.
